grout for flagstone

by mica
(calgary canada)

I live in canada so there is significance change in climate through out the year. I have natural slate flagstone that i would like to grout. currently there is compacted dirt in the spaces that i will remove and then replace with a durable grout. the base of the flagstone sits on sand so i need something that is going to allow for maximal contraction and expansion. Is there a particular product that would be best to use? I know there is pervious products out there but can be tricky to find in canada. Also what is the minimal depth of grout that i would need to allow for best results?

thank you kindly
