White stuff (like lime) comming up from my Flaggstone patio after rain

About 5 years ago a friend helped me install a flagstone deck around my pool, after the rain there is a white substance that looks like powder or scaling that comes up and covers areas of the deck. I would like to know why this happens, can I do anything about it and I am about to do another extenSion of this deck and want to be sure I do not make the same mistake again.. please help

Efflorescence

Dear Patrick,

What's happening is efflorescence. Efflorescence is salt that moves through material on up to the surface when evaporation is happening.

To avoid it in the future, use high quality cement, but that is no guarantee either because cement comes from the salty earth.
