when pouring concrete can you lay natural flagstone?

We are puting in a 12x24 patio. We have a gravel base and pouring roughly 3" of concrete. Question is while the cement is soft enough can you lay the natural flagstone into the top of the concrete? will the stone adhere to the concrete?

Dear Nick,

We have never done that. We lay the concrete first, let it set up, and then lay the stone over the concrete.

I think laying the concrete and then stone at the same time could turn into a messy nightmare.

I've had comments from people on this site who have said they've done that. However, I've never seen pictures or a final project from doing it with that method.

We can only recommend doing it the way we've always done it.

Great luck with your project!!

David
