Wet Laid Stone Patio

"Here is a question about a wet laid stone patio from a gentleman in New Jersey."

Question: I would like to build a wet-laid stone patio. As you know, in the northeast we have cold winters and hot summers. What are your recommendations for building a very solid concrete patio and mortared stone above it that will withstand the extreme weather changes? Many thanks.

Answer:

Dear Khaled,

Thanks for your purchase. I think the DVD will explain a lot for you.

You probably can pour a 4-5" concrete base like we do here in Denver. We've never laid stone in the Northeast, but I'm sure it is the same. Talk to a concrete professional in your area and ask them. I assume you're going to have a professional lay your concrete.

As far as the flagstone, the key is to seal the stone as often as needed. We'll explain that in the video. Out here it might be more extreme than where you're at because we have cold days and a day later it is fairly warm. That is harder on concrete joints than when it stays cold all winter long. So, just make sure to seal your flagstone.

Great luck with your project!

David and Hans
