sealing exterior flagstone on a fire pit

We recently had a contractor build a firepit with ledger stone sides and flagastone cap around top. We used Arizona buff and overall seems pale in color. We would like to seal it to enhance the color and prevent staining on the top. Is it safe to seal a fire pit (outside only)?

sealing is always good

Dear Darlene,

It is always a good idea to seal stone, however, you need to make sure to use a quality sealer. If you get a sealer that gives you the "wet look," then you'll be sorry. They have urethane in them and that will cause gray blotches to come out all over your work.

My dad has used Siloxane from Prosoco for years and has had great luck. Their number is 1-800-255-4255.
