Pennsylvania Blue Flagstone
We have laid Pennsylvania Blue Flagstone four times. We're actually in the middle of a job right now laying it.
It really looks unique and different in Colorado since most flagstone is either Buff or Red.
Pennsylvania Blue is a strong granite stone that is cut out of quarries in huge blocks. Most of the stone is dimensional or pre-cut stone because it is quarried that way. It is, what is called in the industry, a 6 sided cut stone.

The picture above is what the stone looks like in a natural state. It is very rough, so stoneyards have to cut each side straight and then thermal face it to get rid of the saw marks. That's why the stone is so smooth and perfectly cut.

Above is what the product generally looks like after being cut and thermal faced. Everything is smooth.
There is a version of the Pennsylvania Blue Stone that is irregular and doesn't have to be cut on six sides.

It has a little more brown in it, but has a nice rough look to it with the same elegance as blue stone has.
That type of stone might look better with more traditional type homes whereas the pre-cut stone might look better with contemporary homes.
At least that's what the architects tell me. I don't know too much about design! I'll leave that up to the design experts.
