Mortar Haze on Tennessee Crab Orchard Flagstone

by Mary Anne
(Tennessee)

The mason left a mortar haze all over our new crab orchard flagstone patio. He wants to use muriatic acid and a pressure washer to clean it up, but we are worried about our landscaping (We have flower beds with roses and bedding plants right up to the edges). We've also heard that acid shouldn't be used on flagstone. (He did use a pressure washer with a brush attachment on a corner stone and it left brush marks in the stone, so we're really worried!) We would appreciate any advice before we get into a bigger mess than we already have. Thank you!

Do not let him brush the stone again, it's sandstone and will scar, if you are careful the muriatic acid it may work, but is risky with your plants, and you can pressure wash if you use the correct tip and distance, so not to scar or pit the stone. Good Luck
