Hubby's home improvement project went really wrong!!!

Hi,

My husband and his friend decided to put a flagstone patio in on a side of the house where grass would not grow. Thinking that they knew what they were doing I was surprised when they brought a huge amount of soil and crushed granite home. They started building up the area to fill in and level the ground. They built up the area where it is at least 2 feet higher than the cement that surrounds the pool. Besides it just looking odd and uneven where I cannot even put a planter of any kind on the stone. It is against the house and I know that that is is not good for the foundation. They filled the area in between the huge pieces of flagstone with crushed granite. It looks awful and it still costs $600.00 because of the material. My husband is too cheap to hire someone to fix it do you have any suggestions? By the way he thinks it looks good. I wish I had a picture!!

Thanks,
Kendra

Maybe have him look at this video

Dear Kendra,

There really is a difference between men and women. HA! HA!

After reading your post, you really have to make sure that what he laid drains away from the house. The last thing you need is water draining into your house.

You might try to get him to look at this video from about.com. You can view it here:

http://www.the-flagstone-experts.com/flagstone-installation-in-sand.html

On the video, he can see what a quality job looks like.

He may have to tear his work up, but over time he'll be a lot happier and you will too.

Great luck and I hope that video inspires him a little bit!!
