How To Order Flagstone!

The best policy for ordering flagstone is to talk with your local stone yard for exactly what you need.

However, here are some general guidelines we thought to pass along.

If you are looking to lay irregular flagstone, we have found that 1 ton of 1" to 1 1/2" thick stone will lay about 80 square feet.

For 2" thick stone used to lay in sand, we get about 50 to 60 square feet.

Now you'll have to keep in mind the type of stone you'll be laying. We live in Colorado and that is our experiences with Colorado Red Flagstone.

I got an e-mail from a "do-it-yourselfer" that was over by 3 tons, so make sure to ask the stone yard what they think.

When we lay pre-cut stone, we figure 10% over the square footage. For example, if we are laying a 100 square foot patio, then we will order 110 square foot of pre-cut stone. You will always have some stones that break and stone that doesn't look that good.

For irregular stone, we figure 10% to 20% over the square footage.
