Flagstone price in Olathe, KS

by Mark
(Olathe, KS)

I got a quote for 1.5 inch thick flagstone at $6.00 per square foot. I went out to their yard and took a look at it. It is in various size pieces, most larger than a square foot. Is this a reasonable price ?

Thank you,

Mark

30 to 40 cents is high NEW

Retail price on pretty much any flagstone here in cali go's from 16 to 26 cents per pound. I can beat all those prices by about 4 cents per pound but it is a far haul and not sure what trucking would cost. i would be at 12 cents per pound for my flagstones that i haul.

price per pound NEW

Sorry, I meant 16 to 20 cents per lb, not per sq. ft in my last post. Anywho if they are charging 40 cents per lb. sounds like I should be able to cut that price in half somewhere else.

Thank you,

Mark

The stones are in irregular shapes, definitely not cut squares. I estimated a square foot stone at 1.5 inches thick would weigh about 15 lbs (my estimate, so could be off), and did some quick math so at $6.00 per sq. ft divided by 15 lbs. that comes out to 40 cents per sq.ft. I saw a few other posts where guys were talking in the 16 to 20 cents per sq. ft. price range so I definitely think price is too high on this stone.

Flagstone prices are dictated by freight cost from the quarry to you. This sounds pretty high to me. I'm in south La. which is about 7 hours from the quarries in Ark. and Okla. My price is around $3.00 sq.ft. I've been told I'm too cheap, but that's between me and my competition.

Is the stone irregular shape or are they cut squares, because that will make a difference in the pricing, irregular shape flagstone is normally sold by the ton and cut squares are per sq ft., if you have a picture of the stone, I would like to see it and then I can tell you if the pricing is correct.
