flagstone painting

My Foyer has what appears to be flagstone on the floor, it might even be a man made stone that looks like flagstone but whatever it is the color is so ugly and I want to paint it a different color. Can it be painted over?

Dear Robin,

You should talk with a good paint shop. We've seen it done, but I don't want to recommend paints because I don't know enough about it.
