flagstone over old concrete

I have a partially covered 8 x 12 porch. I tore off the old indoor/outdoor carpeting and the concrete is damaged in spots where the rug came up. Is there a prep material that needs to be applied to the uneven concrete before installing the flagstone?

Dear Barbara,

It depends on how big the cracks are. If the cracks are fairly small and normal settling from concrete, then you can just lay your stone over that.

If they are big cracks, then you'll want to ramset metal lathe into the concrete to tie the concrete together.
