Flagstone Landscape. Some Answers From Hans!
Putting in a flagstone landscape can be gorgeous as well as durable.
Tom from Michigan asked a question that might help a lot of home owners.
Question: Is there any variations to the installation of flagstone if
you live in an area that has freeze/thaw issues?. Can it be glued to the
existion concrete?.
Answer: Dear Tom,
We are in Denver, Colorado and we have the same issues.
The stone will stick very well to the Portland Type I-II cement. What is really important is to seal your patio or flagstone project with Sealer from Prosoco. It works much better than the stuff you could get at Home Depot or another hardware store.

Great luck with your project!

Stan from Richardson, Texas had a flagstone landscape question.
Question: I am planning 27X17 ft pation of flagstone. The area in
east Texas is very sandy soil. I have excavated approx 3-4 inches. Should I
compact remainng sand and mix remaining with portland cement to stabilize base?
If so what is the ratio?
2) Would decomposed ranite be better base and filler?
Answer: Dear Stan,
Since you have sandy soil, you should be able to compact the sand fairly well. Sandy soil compacts to about 98% compaction if it's done properly. Denver, where we're at, has sandy soil and it compacts for us very well.
We don't think you'll need to mix in any cement, but you might want to ask a local stoneyard what they think.
Great luck,
David and Hans
