Flagstone Coping Question

Jim from California had a question about flagstone coping.

Question:

Just watched your video and enjoyed it. We are working on a pool patio and coping. It will be cantalevered. We are confident with the stone work, however, are concerned about the edge of the pool and showing a cement line under the stone (between the pool tile and the actual rock). We are wondering what techniques there are to get rid of this seam visually. We've thought of adding a small strip of sandstone but wonder if there is an easier way? The tile is already installed on the pool side to flush with the top of the pool.

Answer:

Dear Jim, Usually we've had the coping installed first and then the tile would come up to the coping.

In this case, if it's impossibe to install a small strip of tile on the joint, then you might consider putting coloring in the cement that you use for the coping. You might be able to match the color of the coping or the tile.

We hope that helps!

David and Hans
