Does Flagstone color fade over time?

We've just spent a fortune on laying a patio/driveway with flagstone and the color of the stones is dark grey, quite a bit darker than we would like. Our foreman advised the flagstone will fade within 3-4 months to a light grey but I don't believe him, I feel he just wants to complete the job without delay. Can you offer your insight on whether Flagstone fades over time and how long that might take?

Dear Les,

We've never worked with stone from the Toronto area, so we can't say definitively.

Stone will fade, but we've noticed that it takes a few years in the sun. We've never seen that much fading in just a few months, but like I said, there might be stone that we don't know about.

You should call some stone yards in your area and inquire about the stone that you have. They will tell you the info that you need.

My dad gets a lot of good info from the local stone yards.
