does arizona red flagstone stain over time?

Hi,
We are planning a flagstone and gravel path in our backyard. The flagstone will sit on and ve surrounded by the gravel. We have heard that if we use Arizona Red flagstone it may stain over time. Do you know about this or have any thoughts or suggestions that may help us?

Not Stain but Fade

Dear JJ,

We've only worked with Arizona Flagstone a couple of times and I wouldn't say it stains, but rather fades, like any other stone. The sun just beats up any stone or surface.

You should call a couple of local stoneyards to get their take on it. They tend to know the stone they sell better than anybody.

In any event, you should use a quality sealer if you install stone. We use a product called Siloxane from Prosoco. You can find out where to get it by calling Prosoco at 1-800-255-4255.

Just don't use a cheap sealer! We get many complaints of bad sealers ruining their stone.
