coloring flagstone

Is it possible to successfully stain or color flagstone?
Ours is a light pink and we'd like to change the color to grey.
we're prepared to restain/paint every few years so the fact that it might fade over time isn't a concern. We just want to know if the stone would accept color in the first place.
our area is a sheltered front porch facing east, so it gets only the early morning sun.
